Overview

To support designs that use mycelial growth: can we create a new method of inhibiting mycelial growth using electromagnetic waves? In this cooperation between electrical engineering and industrial design we tried to explore and increase the data on the interaction between mycelium and electromagnetic waves using oyster mycelium and a 60 GHz antenna. What started as one question, quickly rose into a cluster of more complex questions like: How do does one keep outside influences constant, and how do I capture the growth of an organism that reacts adapts and is highly sensitive to environmental changes? In order to achieve this custom inoculation methods, petri dishes and a research setup and methods were designed. Next to that, 2d image recognition and 3d scans where used to get a complete overview of the samples growth.
